The Hustle Myth and Why It No Longer Serves Us

How hustle mentality is counter intuitive to a life lived on your terms.

America stands lopsided on faulty foundations, but at this point in history, this is in no way a revelation. Just take a moment to look around, and you’ll witness the world that we’ve all had a part in creating. A world where your value is based on what you’ve done.

The consensus seems to be that your value is embedded in how hard you hustle or the degree to which you’re obliterating those goals you’re so fond of creating just to get what you want out of this life.

Apparently, we’ve put a great deal of faith into the belief that the fruits you bear from your “doing” are indicative of your success.

And we all have a shit ton of fruit we’re seeking to bring into our lives on a constant basis. We all have desires and wants. We dream of better, of getting from here to there.

Society has taught us from a young age, that in order to live the very life you covet so dearly, you have to work your ass off.

Nothing comes easy!” they say.

“With hard work, you can accomplish anything!” they’ve declared.

“Deferred gratification and sacrifice is the name of the game,” I can still hear my dad lecture teenage-me.

Just take a moment to reevaluate what you believe in juxtaposition to the world’s beliefs. Or your community’s. Or your 3rd grade teacher’s. Or your friends’. Or your parents’.

Are those beliefs yours? Or someone else’s?

Who first told you that in order to have everything you want, you had to go out there and hustle for it?

What does that say about our self worth?

We’ve plagued ourselves with “doing” in exchange for what we want.

We’ve burdened ourselves with hyper productivity. With staying busy on the regular. With hustling to make what we want happen.

We do, do, do, and if we’re caught not being busy enough, we’re tagged with labels like “lazy” or “unambitious.”

Rewards dependent upon the amount of effort that you put into a task, goal, or job has numbed us to a truth that has the capacity to literally change the game.

A truth that brings much needed relief.

So, let’s all just take a moment to breathe in.

Now breathe out.

The truth is that your worth and value are in no way tied to what you do but rather to who you are.

Did you feel the weight slip off your shoulders?

As a soul having a human experience, you are inherently worthy of everything your heart desires.

Without the hustle.

In this matrix, you may question everyone being inherently worthy, but this is where society’s rules are null and void.

This is where society got it wrong, and thank goodness for that.

This is where you can choose for yourself to no longer believe in all the hype. All the narratives we’ve created around what it means to achieve the possessions or titles or statuses in life…you can simply decide to drop the old stories and choose a route that is effortless and fun.

We’re no longer playing by the rules of the outdated society many of us are still clinging onto. We’re awakening to the truth of who we are, and in that, we’ve come to the realization that everything you desire can come easily and in great abundance by simply letting go of the hustle.

Letting go of the will to make things happen.

You don’t have to make anything happen because everything responds to you.

This subliminal communication between you and the world around you is what creates your very reality.

The hustle, the constant doing, has very little impact on you attracting your desires in comparison to simply relaxing. In contrast to just being you in your true state.

You know, without the distractions of other people’s beliefs, other people’s opinions, and other people’s rules for life.

We can stop resisting what is already seeking us.

So…for brevity’s sake, I’ve summed up what I’ve reflected on as a couple of key principles towards attracting the things you desire.

These are 2 (very general) but vital keys to attracting the life of your dreams:

  1. Let go of forcing your way into the life you want to attract and appreciate where you already are.
  2. When you decide to “do,” do those very things from a place of inspiration, curiosity, and playfulness.

In a nutshell, all you have to do to attract what you want, is to simply be. Just be, and you will lure your desires to you just because you’re you.

The work and “hustle” that everyone believes in with the fervor that they believe in a religion or God is not necessary.

Only divulge yourself in your interests, in the things you love to do, and you will stumble upon the things you were told would only come into your life with hard work.

You will stumble upon them with such ease, that it will delight you in a way like no other, and yet it will give you the momentum to continue bringing in more of your desires.
